Well its Tuesday now... Yesterday was Monday. First day back in college after a two week hiatus to eat chocolate eggs delivered by a fictional Bunny and to not be allowed buy alcohol on a Friday... By freaking LAW!

Seriously there are some messed up laws in place in our world, that really don't make a difference... or any sense. Or should just be abolished and are very outdated. But since yesterday was the 20th of April, 20/4 to us, but 4/20 to Americans (4:20 pm is the national get stoned time, so 4/20 in the states is a big stoner holiday). That's right kids, I'm here to talk to you about Marijuana and it's illegalisation and how fucked up it is and all the bullshit that's gone on for far too long. To quote Tenacious d...

"The first decree is to legalize marijuana.
The tyranny and the bullshit's gone on too long.
You old fuckin' shrivs who blocked it's legalization,
you're banished from the land!"

So it all started in the 1930's, well, it's illegalisation did, its use goes back alot further than that, but we'll skip that and get right to the two responsible fuck heads! William Randolph Hearst and Lamont DuPont.

Hearst supplied most of the US with paper made from wood. Why did he have a problem with the sticky icky? Because of hemp plants, a very close relative to the marijuana plant, the same family strain only
without the THC. Making paper from hemp was cheaper and much more eco-friendly than making it from tree's. Hemp would have cost Hearst Millions. So how do you get rid of the competition? By highlighting its cousin, marijuana. What followed was a huge media smear campaign (conveniently Hearst also had a newspaper, other papers picked up his anti-weed stories to compete.) that even used the racist world of the 30's by saying it was used by Mexicans and African Americans and fueled them into crime inducing frenzies. Of course one man alone needed back up. That's where Lamont DuPont came into things.

DuPont's company had patented the method of making synthetic nylon from coal and since hemp could also do this, there was competition for them too that would in the end cost the millions, so he jumped on the band wagon. It's not clear which one of the two men started using the word Marijuana to strike fear into the people of the world but it was basically the Mexican word for Hemp... but due to how foreign and scary the word Marijuana seemed back then (its nothing new to us now really) it scared the crap out of the American people, causing a Moral Panic (did a 5000 word essay on moral panic recently, so I'm not in the mood for explaining that right now!).

Yes, these two assholes are responsible for the continued rapage of our forests and fossil fuels by criminalising a safer, easier to grow and not important to our Eco system as trees are, or as precious as coal will be, and it's the continued bullshit of corporations and monopoly's that will probably prevent the Hydrogen Engine from taking off the ground once its perfected and cheaper. Well done guys, and to this day this information is kept from the public. Reasons for its criminalisation given today are the same scare tactics used back in the 30's and it just really irritates me. It's a subtle reminder to how backwards a society we live in. Every time I look at the hills surrounding Rathcoole and the Tallaght area and I see how little forestation there is on them compared to
when I was younger, I just get really pissed off. That could have been prevented if we had hemp substitutes. Also those hills, and forests remind me of how young we are as a species and how old and wonderful the world we live in. I talked about this to Rachel recently, about sometimes been around buildings and rural stuff is sometimes unsettling because it just isn't right, it was never meant to get this way. We spread too far too quickly before anyone had time to yell, "Wait a second".

Thankfully today a saviour came in the form of Family Guy. Sunday night an episode aired in America entitled "420". And I was actually surprised to see Brian mention the real reasons for Marijuana's illegalisation. I really hope that this informs the masses (I doubt it will, I'd say the majority of family guys fan base smokes reefer anyways :P) and perhaps causes some change. California are on the right track, we just need the rest of the states to follow suit, and then soon the rest of the world will too. Like the idiots did when the US illegalised it.

RANT! OVER!

I've also come to the conclusion that I prefer the two blogs I wrote stoned. I think it's because reading them the next day is like reading someone else's blog, and I type and talk in a pretty weird manner too. It's interesting and amusing. But reading the other ones is just annoying because it's just plain old boring me with nothing interesting to say really, or that I remember writing them, so they're nothing new to me later. Also I started using Devianart again. Think 'll keep it up to keep my creative juices flowing.

In the TV studio this week and next to film our two TV studio programmes. First one is called Vintage, dunno what its about and my job title at the moment is "Jessica's Bitch", but I'm sure I'll be given a proper job on the day. I'm more interested in the second show. Mia was put in charge of it as producer and writer. And she aimed a little too high with what she wants to pull off. At one point we're going to have 6 people talking at once, and we're also going to have two live acts. Why is this a concern for me? Because I'm on sound for that show.

I have to figure out how the hell I'm going to mic 6 people, with only 4 studio mics to work with, not to mention 2 mics for two guitars and another 2 for 2 vocalists. That's ten mics... and we only have 8 mic in's on our sound desk, so I need to figure out how the hell I'm going to get wired mics going from the studio floor into the 8 addition Line-In's we have on the desk. It's a difficult situation to work around but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Peace out YO!
